NFL Scores Week 14: Minnesota Vikings Continue Surge, Keep Detroit Lions Winless

Adrian Peterson rushed for 102 yards, Tarvaris Jackson stepped in for an injured Gus Frerotte and threw for 105 yards and a touchdown and the Minnesota Vikings (8-5) defense collected four sacks in a 20-16 victory over the winless Detroit Lions (0-13) on Sunday. The win was the Vikings third straight and keeps them atop the NFC North and in line for a playoff berth.

Neither team could produce any offense in the first half as the Lions carried a 6-3 lead into the break after a pair of field goals from Jason Hanson.

Minnesota grabbed the lead in the third quarter after Chester Taylor ran 17-yards into the endzone for a 10-6 advantage but the Lions answered right away as Daunte Culpepper hooked up with Calvin Johnson on a 70-yard touchdown pass and Detroit’s 13-10 lead carried into the final frame.

Jackson then put his stamp on the game when he found Visanthe Shiancoe on an 11-yard touchdown pass for the 17-13 lead. Hanson booted his third field goal of the game to get the Lions to within 17-16 with 5:44 left in the game but Ryan Longwell sealed the game for the Vikings with a 50-yard boot with 22 seconds left on the clock.
