NFL Scores Week 14: New Orleans Saints Top Atlanta Falcons to Stay in Playoff Chase

Pierre Thomas rushed for 102 yards and had a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, Drew Brees threw for 230 yards and two TDs and Reggie Bush collected 80 yards rushing and 26 yards receiving and a score as the New Orleans Saints (7-6) improved to 6-1 at home with a 29-25 win over the Atlanta Falcons (8-5) on Sunday to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Saints had a 10-0 lead in the second quarter after Brees and Bush hooked up on a 5-yard touchdown and Garrett Hartley kicked a 26-yard field goal but Michael Turner got the Falcons on the board with a 5-yard touchdown run to put the score at 10-7.

Hartley added a 46-yard field goal to give the Saints a six-point cushion but that was quickly erased as Matt Ryan found Brian Finneran on a 2-yard TD toss for a 14-13 advantage with 2:13 left in the half. Brees didn’t flinch as he led the Saints down the field and put Hartley in position for his third field goal of the half and New Orleans was in front 16-14.

Atlanta had a great chance to find the endzone in the third but the New Orleans defense held and the Falcons had to settle for a 23-yard field goal from Jason Elam and they carried that 17-16 lead into the fourth.

New Orleans then turned to Thomas who put the Saints in front with a 7-yard touchdown reception but the failed two-point attempt left the score at 22-17. Ryan then brought the Falcons down and got them in the endzone with a 12-yard keeper but the ensuing kickoff was returned by Thomas 88 yards down to the Atlanta 16-yard-line and then Thomas fund the endzone on a 5-yard run for a 29-25 lead with just under six minutes left in the game.

The Saints defense then held the Falcons and after an Atlanta punt it was Thomas who sealed the game with a first down run after Atlanta was out of timeouts.
