Britain's Queen Elizabeth is officially opening a new justice centre in Leamington Spa today (04.03.11).
The 84-year-old monarch and her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, touched down in the West Midlands town by helicopter this morning and were taken to the formal opening of the Warwickshire Justice Centre.
After the facility first opened its doors last summer, the royal couple will get a first-hand experience at life behind bars, viewing an empty custody cell and the magistrates' court.
The pair are to be greeted by Keith Bristow, chief constable of Warwickshire Police, and John Burbeck, senior responsible officer for the £26 million centre, as well as other members of the force who are responsible for neighbourhood policing.
Neil Brunton, assistant chief constable of Warwickshire Police, said: "This is a tremendous opportunity for the county of Warwickshire and Warwickshire Police to welcome the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
"The hosting of an event of such national and international importance will provide huge benefits to the county and Warwickshire Police is proud to play its part in ensuring that it takes place in a safe and enjoyable way."
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will then travel on to Stratford-upon-Avon, where they will officially open the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
