Mexico’s defense secretary announced 3 officers and 10 soldiers have been convicted of trafficking more than $120 million worth of cocaine and methamphetamine.
The men were arrested last week near Tijuana carrying 2,045 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and 66 pounds of cocaine while on duty. They were coordinating the operation with civilians. It is unclear if any civilians have been arrested in the incident.
“What I know is that there was a long-term operation carried out with considerable success,” said Gen. Alfonso Duarte Mugica.
A judge convicted the soldiers of trafficking and organized crime charges.
