Effects of drug abuse widespread

Drug abuse effects long-lasting and widespread

Some may believe that drug and alcohol abuse has merely a temporary physical affect on those who are consumed by it and actively abusing the substances. However, drug abuse and alcohol abuse have a far-reaching affect with the physical being just a minor symptom of the problem.

“At times, it appears that society feels that drug abuse simply affects the physical aspect of an individual,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “The fact is, alcohol and drug abuse affect every aspect of an individual’s life. Not only that, the impact on society is also great. Many individuals either don’t know, or forget, that drug abuse contributes to crime, particularly theft. In addition, those addicted to drugs or alcohol often times neglect their children. Alcohol and drug abuse can’t be dealt with in a vacuum. It must be addressed as a whole. And, in order to do this, we need to make certain that community education programs are in place that address ways to prevent drug and alcohol abuse, as well as the signs of drug and alcohol abuse. We need to make certain that we equip parents with the tools necessary to help their children fight the pressures of drug and alcohol experimentation. Understanding that many facets of society are affected is paramount in winning the war on drugs.”
