Indian police say a deputy general manager of Graphite India Limited in Orissa state died Thursday when an angry mob of fired factory workers burned him alive. Radhey Shyam Roy, 59, fired at least 12 workers shortly before the attack.
The mob set fire to Roy’s vehicle while he was inside. He died on the way to the hospital. Police superintendent Ajay Kumar Sarangi said two other people in the car were able to escape. “Some 15 workers, angry at being sacked, stopped the jeep near the gate of the factory, doused it with petrol and set it ablaze. The driver and another employee managed to escape, but Roy was trapped and died later of serious burn injuries,” Sarangi said.
So far, two people have been arrested in the incident. Authorities are working to arrest others.
