Vice President Joe Bidden met with Republican congressional leaders in the attempt to end the deadlock over the Federal budget. The Republicans in Congress are calling for 60 billion dollars in spending cuts which would result in the loss of 200,000 jobs. They want to reduce the deficit and maintain that cutting the federal deficit would create jobs in the long run. Jobless claims went to their lowest point in three years for the month of February which is promising news for an economy in recovery. For voters, jobs figure more prominently in their minds than the deficit.
If the budget cuts called for pass the unemployment rate will spike and the economy could lose some of its gains. For many people who are struggling with their finances, unemployment is a serious concern. Many of those struggling must make ends meet by using credit which causes mountains of debt that can only be reduced with assistance from bankruptcy attorney. The millions of unemployed will attest to the need for job creation and unless congressional Republicans can convince the people their plan will create jobs it will likely fall flat with the public.
