Ghana Vote Count Remains Tight as Country Prepares for New President

The presidential election held in Ghana remains tight as votes continue to be counted from the country’s vote over the weekend.

Nana Akufo-Addo of the ruling New Patriotic Party and Jerry Rawlings of the National Democratic Congress reported huge turnouts from their supporters and many in the African country are awaiting news concerning their new leader which is expected to be announced some time on Monday.

President John Kufuor of the New Patriotic Party is scheduled to step down from office in January after serving the maximum two-terms in office.

To avoid a second round of elections one of the two candidates will have to secure more than 50 percent of the vote.
