Monday Night Football Schedule Week 14: Carolina Panthers Host Tampa Bay Buccaneers for NFC South Supremacy

The Carolina Panthers (9-3) will be hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-3) in a key matchup for supremacy in the NFC South on Monday Night Football.

Tampa Bay crushed Carolina 27-3 when the two teams met in Week 6 and the Bucs are currently riding a four-game winning streak while the Panthers are coming off an impressive come-from-behind win over the Packers in Green Bay last week.

Monday night’s game is seen as a must-win for the Panthers if they are to capture the NFC South title as the Buccaneers have a slight edge in the tie-breaker. Carolina is also looking at a tough close to the season as they still have the Denver Broncos at home before closing the year with road games against the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints.

The road is a bit easier for the Bucs who have to travel to the Atlanta Falcons but then close their season with two home games against the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders.

Heading into Monday night’s game the Bucs have the NFC’s top defense, allowing just 279.5 yards per game and 16.7 points. Tampa’s run defense has been spectacular, holding opponent to 95.4 yards per game. They’ll certainly be tested as the Panthers have the NFC’s fifth best rushing attack at 133 yards per game.

The Panthers have used a balanced running attack of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart to open up their passing game which features one of the NFL’s top receivers in Steve Smith. Quarterback Jake Delhomme will be looking for redemption following his last performance against the Bucs when he threw three interceptions. In that game Tampa shut down the running attack, limiting the Panthers to just 40 yards on the ground.

Fortunately for the Panthers the Monday Night Football matchup is in Carolina where they are 6-0 on the year.

Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
