Sam’s Town Hosting 2009 King of Cornhole

Sam's Town "in the hole" for the 2009 ACO U.S. Nationals and King of Cornhole

The American Cornhole Organization will partner with Sam's Town Hotel & Casino to bring the ACO U.S. Nationals and King of Cornhole back to Las Vegas for the second year in a row January 23 & 24, 2009. The event is one big cornhole festival for amateurs and professional cornhole players alike. The main event is the King of Cornhole tournament played Saturday January 24, to determine the best cornhole player in the world, as recognized by the American Cornhole Organization or ACO.  Players will be coming from all over the States, as well as Canada for this year's event.

The cornhole event will feature a number of fun activities for cornhole players. The tournaments will consist of a King of Cornhole Qualifier round Friday that will be used to fill the final 24 spots or so available to complete the field of 64 for Saturday's King of Cornhole event. Half of the King of Cornhole entrants pre-qualified as a result of their CornyForty standing for 2008. Other weekend activities will include a competitive doubles tournament Friday evening, a social doubles tournament Saturday and a two day event dubbed the Cornathalon. There is cornhole fun for the amateurs as well as the pros.  Courts will be available for open play, pick up games, skill challenges and other cornholing activities. The event is schedule to run 9:00am until 10:00pm both Friday and Saturday.

"Sam's Town is our kind of partner" Frank Geers of ACO said. "With all the extra amenities at Sam's Town,  all of our players will be feeling like Kings, but by Saturday night there will be only one King of Cornhole".

Cornhole has been around for many years but it is the cornhole sport elevation that has brought serious competition to the forefront. Several years ago, in 2004, Frank Geers the founder of American Cornhole LLC decided that the game needed to be a sport. He knew in order for that to happen certain standards of the game would need to be put in place. So he and a group of dedicated cornhole enthusiasts went about formulating standardization of cornhole boards, cornhole bags, and cornhole rules. These standards are the same in any ACO sanctioned tournament no matter what part of the country the tournament or league is played.
