A Master of Fine Arts Student in Pasadena California developed a search engine called Sloppy Google. The premise behind the mock search engine is to show you what Google would be like of it was a lazy and rude person. The site has generated a lot of attention as a spoof and is probably going to get the student a good grade. No one from Google has responded in regard to the sight but let’s hope they have a good sense of humor and get a laugh out of the ‘search engine’.
It’s no wonder that someone was going to get to the point of parodying the search engine giant so successfully employed by search engine optimization. The Sloppy Google site will probably make people more thankful for the efforts of the world’s largest search engine. Google has become a giant because they strive to give their patron genuine search results despite the recent criticisms. They are successful at what they do and have even generated revenue for many businesses and SEO firms. Even Bing is accused of using Google data on their own search results.
Many people parody the things they admire and idolize. Spoofing is a high form of compliment because it means an impact has been made on the person/thing doing the spoofing. Because of Google’s success advertising on the search engine is a premium and is the focus of search engine optimization which businesses employ to generate customers.
