Monday Night Football Scores: Carolina Panthers Run Over Tampa Bay Buccaneers to Take Control of NFC South

DeAngelo Williams rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns, Jonathan Stewart collected 115 yards on the ground and a pair of scores and Steve Smith had 117 yards receiving and a TD as the Carolina Panthers (10-3) improved to 7-0 at home with a 38-23 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-4) on Monday Night Football and take sole possession of first place in the tight NFC South.

Stewart provided the only touchdown of the first half as he scored on a 2-yard run with just under two minutes left in the second quarter to give the Panthers a 10-3 halftime advantage.

The Bucs managed to tie the score early in the third quarter when Jeff Garcia hit Antonio Bryant on a 50-yard touchdown pass but the Panthers quickly reclaimed the lead when Jake Delhomme connected with Smith on a 38-yard touchdown pass for the 17-10 advantage.

While the Panthers had their running game going the Bucs didn’t fold the tent and managed to close out the third quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run from Carnell Williams and the score was knotted at 17-17.

In the final frame Tampa had no more answers to the Carolina running attack as Stewart scored on a 4-yard run and then DeAngelo Williams added a 16-yard touchdown run to push the Panthers lead to 31-17. Tampa cut their deficit to 31-23 when Garcia found Bryant on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 2:29 left in the game but Williams sealed the win for Carolina when he busted a 36-yard touchdown run.

Carolina chalked up 464 total yards against the Bucs defense, 299 of those yards coming on the ground. With the win the Panthers grabbed a one game lead in the NFC South and are remain in the race for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
