Around the US states are passing bills to help curb the growing number of illegal immigrants. There are approximately 12 million illegal immigrants currently residing in the US. While many states are passing bills which make it harder for illegals to reside in their states, Utah has proposed a guest worker program. Under the new provisions for guest workers, the immigrants would not be required to have citizenship papers buy will have to pay a fee and would be required to have health insurance along with passing a background check.
Leaders in Utah recognize the benefits of immigrant workers in their state and hope to keep business that employ immigrant workers happy. The legislation however does not offer a path to citizenship. Becoming a US citizen with the guidance of an immigration attorney is the only sure way an illegal immigrant can fully reap the benefits of being a legal resident. Utah legislatures hope the new bill will curtail the amount of violence which has escalated in the immigrant community and contribute to the sources which are often used by immigrants without contribution.
Though states generally don’t have the authority there has been increasing drive by many states to bring down the illegal population. An immigrant should seek citizenship with guidance from an immigration lawyer or they face deportation. The tougher states get on illegal migration the more important it will be for residents without papers to apply for naturalization or visas aided by an immigration attorney.
