Six crew members taking a plane on a test flight died Saturday when the aircraft crashed in western Russia. The Russian Ministry for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Disaster Management said the Antonov An-148 went down in the village of Garbuzovo in Belgorod region around 10:40 a.m. local time. The plane was set to be delivered to Myanmar following the test flight.
No one on the ground was hurt in the crash. The victims include two Russian pilots, two flight engineers and two trainee pilots from Myanmar, according to the RIA Novosti news agency. Authorities have recovered all six bodies as well as the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder.
The cause of the crash remains unclear and is under investigation. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion and seeing the tail and a wing of the plane fall off before the crash.
