Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich Taken into Federal Custody on Corruption Charges
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has been taken into federal custody and could now face corruption charges after years of investigation.
Federal agents arrived at Blagojevich’s North Side home Tuesday morning and arrested the governor.
Blagojevich has been accused of scheming to sell the vacated seat in Congress left behind when President-elect Barack Obama won the 2008 presidential election.
Gov. Blagojevich had also been tied to several deals while he was representing Illinois’ 5th District in Congress.
Before Blagojevich can be charged the Justice Department in Washington would have to approve.
