Comic Mike DeStefano Dead

by Daun Lee

The finalist of the ‘Last Comic Standing’ died last night of a heart attack. The comic battled and won his addiction to heroin over 11 years ago. The comic often appeared for free in rehabs and jails. He was also HIV positive and lost his wife a number of years ago. Friends will miss him dearly and say he was a genuine guy. Heart attacks claim the lives of many people every year and young and old alike can be the victims of a heart attack.

Along with heart attacks, lung cancer claims many lives throughout the world. Among the cancers that are fatal, lung cancer ranks at the top of life taking cancers and affects millions a year. Many people contract lung cancer from environmental factors and smoking. One type of lung cancer with an extremely high mortality rate is mesothelioma, a rare type that affects the lining of the lungs or heart. Although mesothelioma can be treated with radiation and chemotherapy the disease carries a high mortality rate.

Mesothelioma is contracted by people who have been exposed to asbestos. In the last century asbestos was commonly used in buildings and homes. Once to cause mesothelioma, the use of asbestos was banned but still remains in structures built before the eighties. People who work in construction and renovation as well as shipyards are at risk of developing mesothelioma. Because asbestos is recognized as a toxic material people who contract mesothelioma can receive compensation for their pain.
