Electronics giant Sony has announced it will be cutting 8,000 jobs and will be closing about 10% of its manufacturing sites as a result of the economic downturn.
While Sony made the announcement of the planned cuts and closures they have not specified what countries would be affected by the decision. The job cuts and closures are expected to be done by April 2010.
Sony currently operates 57 production sites.
According to Sony the decision will save the company more than $1 billion by the end of next year,
