Tomb Raider to return

'Tomb Raider' is coming back to the big screen.

GK Films has acquired the rights to the hit video game starring Lara Croft from interactive entertainment company Square Enix, and plans to reboot the action-adventure franchise.

Graham King - who will produce the movies with Tim Headington - said: "We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the 'Tomb Raider' phenomenon."

The original two films - which grossed a total of $432m at the worldwide box office - starred Angelina Jolie as the daredevil archaeologist although it is thought she won't reprise her role again for the film, which is eyeing a 2013 release.

The latest films will create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara and while GK Films have yet to hire a writer, they are thought to be looking to do an origin story rather than continue her explorations in a sequel.

In 2009, it was claimed 'Transformers' star Megan Fox was to play a young Lara Croft, although she later denied this.
