Mater Dei (CA) Remains #1, Duncanville (TX) Drops in USA Today HS Basketball Rankings

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA) remains at the top spot of the USA Today Super 25 high school basketball rankings, which were released Monday.

The Monarchs are 3-0 after winning the Loara tournament, including giving coach Gary McKnight his 800th win. Mater Dei defeated Downey, 89-46; Loara (Anaheim), 103-45; and North (Torrance), 122-67.

Lincoln (Brooklyn, NY) moves up to No. 2 after Lance Stephenson led the Railsplitters in scoring in their 2-0 start. Stephenson had 40 points in Lincoln's 114-56 win against South Shore (Brooklyn), and tallied 34 points and 14 rebounds in a 99-62 win against archrival Grady (Brooklyn).

Several top 25 matchups have already occurred thus far this season, mainly of which occurred in the Marshall County HoopFest.

No. 3 Findlay College Prep (Henderson, NV) defeated then-No. 16 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) 66-39 in the HoopFest as Texas signee Avery Bradley had 18 points.

No. 4 St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, NJ) defeated then-No. 17 Whitney Young (Chicago, IL), 69-55. No. 19 Duncanville (TX) lost to then-No. 12 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) 69-57, all of which occurred in the HoopFest.

Duncanville dropped from No. 2 to No. 19 after losing to Madison (San Antonio) 83-81 in overtime of the McDonald's Texas Invitational and to Oak Hill.

Wheeler (Marietta, GA) also dropped from No. 7 to No. 24 after losing to Callaway (Jackson, MS), 69-62.

LeFlore (Mobile, AL) jumped from No. 25 to No. 15 as DeMarcus Cousins helped to lead them to an 8-0 start. Montverde (FL) Academy dropped out of the Super 25 after starting 4-3, allowing for North Lawndale (Chicago) to move in at No. 17.

This week offers several more top 25 matchups. On Saturday, Duncanville will play the team that now has its previous spot, Lincoln (Brooklyn, NY), in Dallas, while No. 16 Whitney Young will face Oak Hill Academy. Archrivals No. 10 Fairfax (Los Angeles) and No. 11 Westchester (Los Angeles), who are led by top 10 player Renardo Sidney, will battle each other on Monday.
