Jason Gardiner blasts DOI viewers

Jason Gardiner has vowed to continue giving harsh critiques on 'Dancing On Ice'.

The acid-tongued judge - who cruelly criticised the oral hygiene of former contestant Denise Welch's husband Tim Healy after he invaded the stage on Sunday night (06.03.11) to defend his wife's honour - thinks this series of the celebrity skating show has been turned into a "circus".

He said: "Tim should regret getting in my face when I am doing my job. He was talking absolute gibberish. I am trying to do my job. I am doing what I am paid to do which is to critique and say what I see.

"It does always surprise me that people take such umbrage about critique. They need to put into perspective what I am saying. It's hilarious that it has all turned into a circus. It is beyond pantomime, it is circus."

However, Jason believes his controversial comments have ultimately brought the ITV1 show more publicity.

He added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I assess everything as it happens. You are live and it is unpredictable. We don't know how it is going to play out on the night. I can't be too consumed with whether it is going to upset a lot of people.

"For all of the people that are upset there are many more that aren't. There have been a couple of instances when my producers have told me 'that was close to the mark - we could have done without that'. But ultimately it has brought a lot of publicity."

However, the Australian choreographer is likely to have caused further controversy after blasting viewers - who bombarded 'Dancing On Ice' host Phillip Schofield's twitter page with angry rants about Jason - as "idiots".

Writing to Phillip, Jason tweeted: "Sorry that a few idiots on here are giving you a hard time over my reaction to bad breath. You should see the tweets I've gotten."
