The lone surviving terrorist suspect in the Mumbai attacks is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday where a judge will extend his custody for an additional period of time prior to his trial.
Mohammed Ajmal Qasab was the only surviving terrorist involved in the attacks that left at least 170 people dead and several hundred injured. Qasab, along with his accomplice Ismal Khan, killed at least 50 people when they opened fire at a train station and two other locations in the city.
Police shot dead Khan but apprehended Qasab and the following day he was remanded to custody for 14 days. On Thursday his custody is expected to be extended for another 14 days for further interrogation before charges are officially filed.
Those charges are supposed to be filed within 90 days of arrest but due to the nature of the crimes that could be extended. Mohammed Ajmal Qasab is facing charges of murder, attempted murder and waging war against a country among other charges.
