St. Louis Police Officer Investigated in Child Porn Case Kills Himself Behind Church

A St. Louis police officer being investigated in a child pornography case killed himself after jumping from a police car while being transported to police headquarters for questioning. After jumping from the car the officer ran away and police were later alerted that a body had been found behind a church suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to police they had received information that a computer at the residence of the officer had been used to either posses or transfer child pornography. When they went to the house on Tuesday morning the officer was not home but when they found the officer he provided the police with a key to the home.

The police returned to the house and confiscated the computer as well as personal papers but did not arrest the officer at that time. Later on Tuesday members of the city’s Internal Affairs department returned to the residence and picked the officer up and were transporting him to the police station for questioning.

Just a few blocks from police headquarters the officer jumped from the car and ran. Police searched for the officer but it wasn’t until a resident reported seeing a body behind a church that the search ended.

The 37-year-old officer had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to Saint Louis University Hospital where he died.
