Bradley Cooper wants Great Gatsby role

Bradley Cooper "would love" a role in the film adaptation of 'The Great Gatsby'.

The 'Limitless' star has admitted he is hoping to land the part of the protagonist's arch-rival Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel because the character is so "complicated".

He said: "To me, he's the best character in the book. He's so complicated. He's xenophobic, he's an alcoholic, but he also understands some profound stuff about class.

"Whoever plays it has to take a gentle hand, because it could so easily be stock, where he's a rich jerk you don't identify with at all."

However, the 36-year-old actor admitted he has no idea whether the Australian director - who has worked on 'Moulin Rouge', 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Australia' in the past - is even considering him for a role in the movie.

Bradley added to the New York Times newspaper: "I don't even know if I'm on Lurhmann's radar. Maybe he'll read this article after the role's cast and say, 'Oh. Ha. Yeah, that guy was never going to get it.' "
