Bettie Page, Pin Up Legend, Dies at 85

Bettie Page, one of America’s most famous 1950s pin-up models, has died. The 85-year-old passed away Thursday after she was removed from life support following a heart attack.

Page was 27 when she was discovered by a photographer on Coney Island in 1950. She went on to pose nude in many photo spreads, including a Playboy centerfold in 1955 in which she posed in only a Santa hat.

Page became a born again Christian in the 1960s and faded away from the spotlight. She became a Baptist missionary in Angola and later worked with several Christian organizations. Page was married three times and all ended in divorce.

Page re-emerged in recent years and gave several interviews. She was also the subject of the 2005 film ‘The Notorious Bettie Page,’ in which she was portrayed by Gretchen Mol.

“She captured the imagination of a generation of men and women with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality. She is the embodiment of beauty,” says her agent Mark Roesler.
