Vatican Releases New Doctrine Condemning Embryonic Stem-Cell Research, Human Cloning

In a document released by the Vatican’s doctrinal body, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and approved by Pope Benedict XVI, the Catholic Church reaffirmed its stance that embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning, in-vitro fertilization and any drugs that prevent the implantation of the embryo during pregnancy were in direct opposition to the sanctity of life.

The Catholic Church has stood on the belief that life begins at conception and that anything that prevents or ends that process were immoral, amounting to “the sin of abortion.”

While the Dignitas Personae (The Dignity of a Person), an Instruction of Certain Bioethical Questions, condemned embryonic stem-cell research the Church has no opposition to adult stem-cell research.
