Prescription Drug Addiction Admissions Skyrocket Says Narconon Rehab

Narconon drug and alcohol rehab program has seen continued increases in prescription drug addiction admissions. National statistics indicate the same with the number of prescriptions higher than ever.

According to a White House study done in 2010, there has been a 400 percent increase in rehab admissions for prescription drug addiction over the last 10 years. Currently prescription drugs are the second most abused drugs in the United States.

The addictive qualities of these drugs are one main reason for the rise in abuse but another reason for this is the increase in the amount of prescriptions written each year. In a 10 year period the number of prescriptions per year went up from 22 million per year to 354 million prescriptions.

Narconon Arrowhead, a rehab specializing in treating prescription drug addiction, the abuse of prescriptions has become a national crisis. The facility has seen a large increase in the number of people looking for addiction help who are addicted to prescriptions.

Gil Kerlikowske, Director for the National Drug Policy stated that, "The spikes in prescription drug abuse rates captured by this study are dramatic, pervasive, and deeply disturbing."

In order to curb this problem the Narconon organization is beefing up their drug prevention team to help provide education on the dangers of prescriptions to youth and adults alike and outlining steps that people can take if they know someone who has a problem with prescriptions. The facility is also continuing to take admissions for those currently addicted to prescriptions that want help.

Narconon provides a solution to anyone struggling with prescription drug addiction and their inpatient program achieves a 70% success rate for permanent recovery. The facility also utilizes a safe and effective, drug-free detox program designed to drastically reduce physical cravings for drugs.

Pamela S. Hyde, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Administrator commented that, “[The non-medical use of prescription pain relievers] and its tragic consequences are seen in substance abuse treatment centers and hospital emergency departments throughout our Nation.” She suggests that citizens follow President Obama’s National Drug Control Strategy. This calls for a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the risk of prescriptions and the importance of handling, storing and disposing of medical prescriptions correctly.
