Happier times for EastEnders' Kat and Alfie?

Happier times could lie ahead for EastEnders' Kat and Alfie Moon.

The pint-pulling pair - played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie - have spent the past few months believing their baby son Tommy had tragically died of cot death, when in reality disturbed Ronnie Branning (Samantha Womack) had swapped the body of her lifeless tot James with the infant.

However, with Ronnie finally set to confess all about the horrific series of events, actress Jessie promises happier times are set to come when her mouthy alter-ego is finally reunited with her child.

She explained: "We've just shot the scenes. There'll ¬happier times for Kat and Alfie. But it probably won't stay too happy for long."

With the traumatic baby swap storyline causing more than 12,500 viewers to complain, Jessie - who returned to the BBC One soap following a five-year hiatus in 2010 - thinks the "controversial" nature of the plot has shown 'EastEnders' bosses aren't afraid to push the boundaries.

She added to the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "This 'controversy' has done us good. If anything we've got more viewers out of it. Why should the show not push the boundaries? People need to chill out.

"A lot of people just jumped on the bandwagon and complained before the scenes even went on air."
