Mother and Daughter Team at Fort Worth Massage Envy Enjoy the Rewards and Challenges of Working Together

There is something unique about the Alliance Town Center Massage Envy in Fort Worth; it is managed and run by a mother-daughter team.

Sandi Romero is general manager and her daughter, Candyce Romero, is assistant clinic administrator of the Alliance Town Center Massage Envy. Sandi began working for Massage Envy in 2010. After hearing her mother’s excitement about the company and industry, Candyce jumped at the chance to join her mother when a position opened later that same year.

Both admit that working with family can be challenging. Candyce says, “With my mom and me, our personalities are very similar so sometimes we butt heads.” Sandi agrees, saying, “Trust me, we do have the occasional conflict.” Both also agree that, difficult as it may be, it is best to put their personal lives aside when it comes to business. Working together requires a different kind of relationship, because there they are not mother and daughter but boss and employee. It is especially difficult for Candyce to think of her mother as boss first and her mother second at work, stating, “She puts me in check really fast when I cross the line handling business conflicts.”

Sandi also worries that other employees might think Candyce “gets a break” because of their relationship, but notes, in actuality, “I am the toughest on her because I expect her to be the best and demand it of her.” Candyce knows it: “I think my mom is probably harder on me than any other employee.”

Despite the challenges, both immensely enjoy working together at Massage Envy. Mother and daughter agree that working together has strengthened their already close relationship and created a mutual professional respect between them. Mother Sandi says she enjoys watching her daughter grow professionally, and Candyce says she feels lucky to be able to work with her mother and learn so much from her.

Sandi and Candyce both greatly appreciate the work they do at Massage Envy. They get great satisfaction knowing they help clients feel better. “Understanding that massage therapy has true health benefits and knowing that we have helped our clients is really rewarding,” Sandi acknowledges. She and Candyce are thankful to Massage Envy for bringing them even closer together and allowing them to learn so much from each other.
