A.J. Burnett, considered by many to be the most prized free-agent pitcher left on the market, is set to have reached an agreement with the New York Yankees, giving the Bronx Bombers two of the biggest arms in the game over the past two days.
Burnett, who will turn 32 next month, put together an 18-10 record with 4.07 ERA for the Toronto Blue Jays last year and he decided to act on his opt-out clause in his five-year deal worth $55 million. He is rumored to be getting $82.5 million over five years from the Yankees.
The powerful righty joins C.C. Sabathia in the Yankees revamped rotation and there is no sign that New York is done spending. Sabathia signed a $161 million seven-year deal on Thursday with an opt-out deal available after three years.
