U.S. Golf Championship Names Official Charity

Boys & Girls Clubs to benefit as the official charity of the U.S. Putting Tour's 2011 national championship

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad has been named the official charity of the inaugural U.S. Putting Tour Championship, to be held September 24-30, 2011 at The Crossings in Carlsbad, California.

“We’re thrilled to be involved with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad,” said USPT President Jim Hartley.  “While the USPT Championship is a national event, our goal was to tie-in with an organization that benefits young people right here in our host city of Carlsbad.”

Contributions will be raised throughout the year, including during the USPT Championship, when a week-long putting contest will give golfers and golf fans a chance to win a major prize on the final day, September 30.

In addition, a portion of all entry fees into the putting championship will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. The event is open to all golfers, including men and women, amateurs and professionals. Individuals can enter now at the U.S. Putting Tour’s website.

“Sports play a big role within our organization, both for the kids and for fundraising,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad’s CEO Brad Holland. “Aligning with the U.S. Putting Tour and its 2011 championship, given the Carlsbad connection, represents a great fit for us.”

Holland went on to say that one of his organization’s biggest annual fundraising events is its own golf tournament. The 2011 tournament is scheduled for March 28 at El Camino Country Club.

The Carlsbad, California-based U.S. Putting Tour was founded in 2010 and officially launched in January 2011. Its season-ending putting championship features a guaranteed first prize of $10,000.

The U.S. Putting Tour allows individuals, PGA professionals, men’s and ladies’ clubs, charities, event planners and other groups to hold official qualifying putting tournaments throughout the year that qualify winners for the championship. Information on how to hold a qualifying event is available at the U.S. Putting Tour’s website.

Also at the website is information about the golf sponsorship opportunities associated with the putting tour for businesses interested in reaching a golf audience.
