A third explosion occurred at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant Tuesday afternoon. Plant workers were temporarily evacuated after the blast at reactor No. 2. No one was injured and the building housing the reactor was not damaged. Few other details were released.
The situation prompted the government to impose a no fly zone over an 18 mile radius of Fukushima. Evacuations were also ordered within about 12 miles. Anyone remaining in the area are urged to stay indoors.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano radiation levels have lowered “to the level to cause no harm to human health.” Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan said the risk of the reactors releasing radiation is still “very high.”
