David Beckham was shocked to find out his wife Victoria Beckham is expecting a girl because doctors originally told them they were having a boy.
The soccer star - who already has three sons, Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight, and six-year-old Cruz with the fashion designer - revealed he and Victoria assumed they would be adding another boy to their brood this summer and were overcome with emotion when they discovered they would be having a daughter.
In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show, he said: "When you've had three boys you just kind of assume that you're going to have another one. Funnily enough, when we went to have the three-month scan they [the doctors] said, 'Oh, it looks like a boy.'
"We were, like, 'Oh, OK, great. Almost like a five-a-side (soccer) team.' And then we went back and they were like, 'Actually, it's a girl.' The emotion hit us [then]. It's amazing."
David, 35, and 36-year-old Victoria - who is five months pregnant - are not the only ones who are excited about adding a girl to their family, their sons can't wait to get a sister.
He said: "It's nice to be prepared. The boys are so excited, thinking that they're going to have a little sister."
