Auburn Tigers Hire Gene Chizik as New Head Football Coach

The Auburn Tigers have reportedly hired Iowa State coach Gene Chizik as their new head football coach, bringing the former defensive coordinator back the sidelines of the SEC.

Chizik served as defensive coordinator for Auburn from 2002-04. In his final year with the Tigers the team posted a perfect 13-0 mark led by a defense that allowed just 11.3 points per game, tops in the nation.

He then spent two seasons in Texas where he served as assistant head coach under Mac Brown and then moved to the head coaching spot at Iowa State following the 2006 season. In his two years with the Cyclones he posted a 5-19 mark including a winless season in Big 12 play in 2008.
