Reporter in Iraq Throws Shoes at Visiting President George Bush

U.S. President George Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq to sign a new security agreement between the two countries but his stop became chaotic when a reporter at a news conference hurled his shoes as the leader, nearly hitting him.

Bush had been speaking at the news conference when a journalist heaved his shoes at him and screamed “this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog.” The journalist was quickly tackled by security guards and taken away.

Bush was in Baghdad just one day after U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates told American troops that the mission in Iraq was in its “endgame.”

The agreement signed by Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki calls for the U.S. to leave Iraq in 2011.

When asked about the shoe throwing incident Bush was reported to have said “All I can report is a size 10.”
