African Armies Conduct Joint Offensive Against Ugandan Rebels

Armies from Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan have reportedly engaged in a joint offensive against Ugandan rebels based in the eastern DR Congo.

The rebels are part of the Lord’s Resistance Army led by Joseph Kony. Kony has been a target of the International Criminal Court and has continued to organize strikes in northern Uganda despite government efforts to institute a peace deal.

Kony has based his LRA rebels in the eastern DR Congo region of Garamba and the three armies have concentrated their efforts in that region. Intelligence chiefs representing the three armies released a joint statement indicating the LRA’s main camp had been destroyed.
