NFL Scores Week 15: Carolina Panthers Inch Closer to Sealing NFC South with Win Over Denver Broncos

Jake Delhomme threw for 253 yards and a touchdown, DeAngelo Williams collected 88 yards rushing and a TD and Steve Smith had 165 yards receiving and a score as the Carolina Panthers (11-3) had little trouble dropping the Denver Broncos (8-6) 30-10 on Sunday to move closer to locking up the NFC South.

Denver locked strong on their first drive of the game as Jay Cutler hit P.J. Pope on a 7-yard touchdown pass for a quick 7-0 advantage but the Panthers answered as Delhomme found Smith on a 15-yard TD toss to even the score. The Broncos reclaimed the lead with a Matt Prater field goal with 3:37 left in the opening frame but John Kasay kicked the equalizer in the closing seconds of the busy first quarter.

Carolina grabbed their first lead of the game in the second quarter when Jonathan Stewart scored on a 2-yard run and the Panthers never looked back. Kasay would add a field goal as the half came to a close and Carolina took a 20-10 lead into the break.

The Panthers put the game away early in the third quarter when DeAngelo Williams broke a 56-yard touchdown run that gave Carolina a 17-point cushion and Kasay tacked on a fourth quarter field goal to finish the scoring.

Carolina needs to win one of their final two games to lock up the NFC South and they still have a shot at taking home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Broncos missed out on an opportunity to lock up the AFC West as they still need one more win or a San Diego Chargers loss to take the division.
