The Casey Anthony murder case took yet another bizarre twist on Monday as investigators unearthed more bones in an area that a small child’s skull was found late last week.
Investigators have not said if the skull that was found in a plastic bag was that of Caylee Anthony, the two-year-old daughter of Casey who disappeared last June. The remains were discovered less than a half-mile from the Orlando home belonging to the parents of Casey Anthony.
Over the weekend more bones were found in the wooded area where the initial discovery was made yet investigators have not made any announcement about the nature of those bones.
Casey Anthony has been charged with the murder of her daughter and is scheduled to go on trial in March. The 22-year-old mother has denied having any involvement in Caylee’s disappearance and has stood by her story that she dropped her daughter off with a babysitter and when she returned both were gone.
Investigators became suspicious of Casey when they discovered she had not reported Caylee missing for more than a month. They soon found damaging evidence in the trunk of a car driven by Casey Anthony. That evidence included hair from Caylee and evidence that a decomposing body had been placed in the trunk. Investigators also found a bottle that contained chloroform in the car.
Many believe the bones found last week are those of Caylee Anthony yet Casey’s defense team insists that would not change anything as she maintains her innocence.
Casey Anthony remains behind bars in an Orange County jail.
