Threat of Mudslides in Southern California Leads to Mandatory Evacuations

Severe rainstorms that have drenched Southern California on Monday have sparked fears of potential mudslides and authorities have ordered a mandatory evacuation for several Orange County residents.

Hundreds of homes in Yorba Linda have been evacuated as the rain soaked hillsides have quickly become susceptible to slides that could devastate the community. The areas surrounding Yorba Linda were at the center of last month’s wildfires that scorched the hillsides, leaving them bare and more prone to produce mudslides.

There has been no word on how long the evacuations will be in place as the heavy rains continue to pound Southern California while producing heavy snow storms in areas with higher elevations.
