Nile Rodgers is now cancer free.
The producer and former Chic guitarist wrote a blog post saying he is winning in his battle against fight against the disease - which he was diagnosed with last October - but warns he faces a long road to recovery.
Nile - who has undergone surgery for the "aggressive" disease - wrote: "It was rainy and warm as I went to see my doctors for the second straight day. Though I'm now Cancer Free, my post operative symptoms require a huge amount of recuperative therapy."
Nile, 58, has chosen not to disclose what form of cancer he has been suffering from.
The musician - who has produced a string of hits including 'Remember the Time' by Michael Jackson, 'We Are Family' by Sister Sledge and 'Material Girl' by Madonna - said when he was initially diagnosed in October last year, comparing it to "jaws savagely eating me from the inside out".
Many people have wished Nile a speedy recovery, including David Bowie.
After hearing of his friend's diagnosis he sent a message saying "All our love and support goes out to you, Nile, you are the greatest. David."
Nile produced two of David's albums, 'Fame' in 1983 and 'Black Tie White Noise' in 1993.
