Caroline Kennedy has decided she will seek an appointment from New York Governor David Paterson for the Senate seat that will be vacated by Hillary Clinton who will become President-elect Barack Obama’s Secretary of State.
Kennedy would be taking the seat that her uncle, Robert Kennedy, once held.
It remains to be seen who Paterson will appoint but Kennedy certainly has the backing of political heavyweights in the state including New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Kennedy, 51, has also contacted the speaker of the state Assembly, Sheldon Silver, as well as the State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
Hillary Clinton has said she would not vacate the seat until she is confirmed as Obama’s secretary of state. That wouldn’t be until January or February and Paterson has already said he wouldn’t make a decision on the Senate appointment until that time.
