Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave break world record

Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave have broken the Guinness World Record for the longest-ever marathon radio show.

The Radio 1 DJ duo - who have raised almost £2 million for Comic Relief with their mammoth challenge - broke the current world record at 08.30am this morning (18.03.11) when they passed the 50-hour mark.

However, the pair vowed not to give up and stayed on air until the end of their extended breakfast show at 10.30am, setting a new world record at 52 hours.

Chris said: "It's brilliant. It's great that we've broken the record. They've even given us a certificate. It's great that we've done it and, more importantly, that we've raised so much money."

During the course of the marathon show - which started at 6.30am on Wednesday morning (16.03.11) - the duo have been visited by a whole host of celebrity guests keen to show their support for the attempt, including Katy Perry, Lily Allen, Ricky Gervais, Olly Murs and Gary Barlow.

However, Chris admitted he didn't initially think he would be able to complete the challenge.

He told Radio 1's Newsbeat: "When we were on hour seven, hour 52 seemed like a mountain away. That was difficult. The next hour after that was hour eight and it still seemed far away. Getting into double figures wasn't really a big help when you get to 10 hours and you've still got to get to 52.

"The high points were having a proper laugh with Greg James, Scott Mills, Fearne Cotton and all the other Radio 1 DJs. I wouldn't recommend it but it was good fun."

Yesterday (17.03.11), fellow DJ Greg James stripped naked live on air when the donations passed the £600,000 mark.

Greg quipped: "That was pretty awful but I didn't mind one bit. That total is b****y amazing. Thank you so much. Mind-blowing. Go on boys!"

The previous record for the longest Radio 1 show was set by Simon Mayo in 1999, who stayed on the air for 37 hours in aid of Comic Relief.
