Big wave surfer Sion Milosky was killed this week at Maverick’s Beach in Half Moon Bay, California. Milosky was thrown off his surf board and pulled underwater by a powerful wave Wednesday evening. Attempts by paramedics and doctors to revive the 35-year-old failed. He was pronounced dead at Seaton Coastside Medical Center in Moss Beach. An autopsy will be conducted.
"He didn't really make a mistake, he just took off on a wave, it caught him like an avalanche and he was down and just never really came up," big-wave surfing great Peter Mel told Reuters.
Volcom, Milosky’s corporate sponsor, released a statement on their website saying, "It's with a very heavy heart that we bid farewell to Hawaiian family man and big wave surfer Sion Milosky. “After a wipeout and a two-wave hold down at Mavericks, Sion passed away. Words cannot begin to describe how saddened we are by this loss."
Milosky is survived by his wife and two daughters.
