Paul O'Grady blasts chat shows

Paul O'Grady has slammed chat shows, just as ITV1 announced 'Paul O'Grady Live' will return for a second series.

The TV presenter believes viewers are bored of the traditional format, but admitted any attempts to liven up his own show would not impress him.

He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "I don't think people want serious chat shows any more on television. I think they died with Parky and that was it. Executives saw that and tried to liven up the format by getting hosts to rip into people.

"That wasn't for me. I couldn't say to someone, 'Tell me about your 10 abortions'. It's none of my business. The public got bored with these nasty shows and that's a good thing."

Despite his criticisms, ITV1 have announced today (18.03.11) that Paul will return for a second series of his primetime chat show 'Paul O' Grady Live'.

In a statement he said: "I'm really looking forward to being back behind my desk!! We've got some fabulous guests lined up and I'll be having a good gossip and getting up to my usual antics!"

Elaine Bedell, ITV's Director of Entertainment and Comedy added: "Paul brings his own brand of irreverent humour and chat to the channel and we are delighted to welcome him back to ITV1 for a second series. His warmth and wit are the perfect way to start the weekend."
