Parents of Casey Anthony “Devastated” Following the Finding of Remains Near Home

The parents of Casey Anthony, the 22-year-old Orlando mother accused of killing her 3-year-old daughter, are said to be devastated by the recent findings of a child’s skull and several bones in a wooded area near their home.

Caylee Anthony disappeared in June but was not reported missing by Casey for more than a month. She told investigators that she had dropped Caylee off with a babysitter and when she returned to pick her up both were gone. Casey insisted she had nothing to do with her daughter’s disappearance but investigators quickly focused on her when they discovered evidence of human decomposition in the trunk of a car she had been driving.

Evidence has continued to build against Casey Anthony yet her parents, George and Cindy Anthony, have defended their daughter and have insisted Caylee is still alive and remains missing. Police have searched the home of George and Cindy Anthony, where Casey and Caylee lived, and collected evidence that pertains to the case.

Late last week a utilities worker uncovered a plastic bag in a wooded area near the home and when the bag was lifted a child’s skull fell to the ground. Authorities have since unearthed several more bones in the area and continued to gather evidence from the scene.

Upon finding the remains investigators returned to the home of George and Cindy and gathered items that are believed to be tied to the scene where the remains were found. While there has been no official announcement that the remains are those of Caylee Anthony the lawyer for the grandparents, Brad Conway, stated “They’re devastated. They're trying to deal with this the best they can. They're realistic about the probability that it's Caylee, but they pray it's not.”

Casey Anthony is scheduled to go on trial for first-degree murder in March. She is currently being held at the Orange County Jail without bond.
