Ottis Toole Named Killer of Adam Walsh

Florida authorities say they have solved the 1981 murder of 6-year-old Adam Walsh, whose father John Walsh became an the host of America’s Most Wanted.

Authorities have named accused serial killer Ottis Toole responsible for Walsh’s death. Toole died in prison in 1996 while serving time for another murder.

Toole has confessed to the murder but later recanted. His niece told John Walsh that he gave a deathbed confession.

Adam was abducted from a Sears Department Store in Hollywood, Florida on July 27, 1981. His mother Reve allowed him to watch a group of kids play a video game in the store while she shopped. When she returned to get Adam, he was gone. On August 10, Adam’s head was found in a canal near Vero Beach. The rest of his body was never found.

"Although Adam's killer never served one day in prison for destroying our son's life and almost ruining ours, nor will he ever because he died in prison serving time for an unrelated murder, we are satisfied that the main suspect in Adam's murder –- Ottis Toole -- has now been positively identified and that this chapter in our lives is now closed," John Walsh said in a statement today.
