The Finale of ‘Big Love’ Creates a Stir for Fans and Critics

by Daun Lee

The fifth season of the HBO series “Big Love” ended with a literal bang. The show which focused on a Mormon man and his three wives had run its course and the producers had to find a creative way to end the show. The writers and producers decided to kill off the polygamist Bill Henrickson, played by Bill Paxton. He was shot by a neighbor who blamed Bill for all his troubles leaving the sister wives to deal with life without him. Fans and critics of the shows felt like it was an appropriate end to the show.

Polygamy is illegal in the US though some states allow certain people who have religious propensities the right to have multiple wives especially Mormons. Though there are people who have religious beliefs that permit polygamy, some men practice polygamy without religious sanction. Some maintain different wives unknown to the women; others have multiple wives simply because they don’t seek divorce attorneys to help dissolve their marriages and move on to other women. The reasoning can be financially motivated, the men not wishing to divide their assets. It isn’t a prevalent problem like infidelity or domestic abuse but still occurs.

In a divorce, emotions ride high as the problem of dividing assets and custody of children must be decided upon; these issues must be resolved with a divorce lawyer in the court. Resolving the many disputes whether they be polygamy or infidelity requires the expertise of a divorce attorney.
