Johnson Beharry happy to ditch DOI lifestyle

Johnson Beharry is happy to ditch his new-found celebrity lifestyle following his elimination from 'Dancing On Ice'.

The war hero - who narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the ITV1 show this Sunday (27.03.11) - admitted he his hoping to go back to his job in the Army now his time in the series has come to an end.

He explained: "I'm not a celebrity, I'm a soldier. I've got a stable job in the Army that I love so I won't go outside that. I was happy to get this opportunity to see what I was capable of. I hadn't seen the ice - or even ice skates - before the show.

"But I would never class myself as a celebrity. I'm Johnson Beharry. I would never fit in the celebrity world. I do my day job and that's it."

However, the lance corporal - who was awarded the prestigious Victoria Cross for his bravery in Iraq in 2005 - credited the show with restoring his co-ordination and memory, both of which were harmed during his time on the front line.

Johnson added to The Sun newspaper: "Eight weeks into the show I felt a difference in my brain. I felt a change in mentally processing information and took in routines more quickly. I've had an incredible journey."
