Vivienne Westwood questions her career

Dame Vivienne Westwood constantly questions why she is still working in fashion.

The British designer - who is credited with launching the UK's punk scene in the 1970s - is not sure if she has made a conscious decision to develop her style and is just pleased to have done "so many" collections.

She said: "I don't know if I have developed in any specific way. I always tend to like my latest collection best. I've done so many and I keep thinking, 'Why do you need to keep on doing this?' "

The 69-year-old fashion legend also reveals the key to maintaining a successful talent is always reading, something she would encourage new designers to do.

She told the New York Post newspaper: "This is the secret: reading. A young person might be talented and can make two great collections, but then they dry up. You have to have culture.

"If not, where do you get your ideas? If you don't understand the past, you don't understand the world. By knowing what has been done, you know what's possible."
