Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar has been named to the Interior Secretary post by President-elect Barack Obama.
Salazar, who won a Senate seat in the 2004 elections, will be responsible for the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the United States Geological Survey. These services include monitoring oil and gas drilling on public land as well as managing the nation’s parks and wildlife refuges.
Obama expressed confidence that Salazar, 53, would be able to balance the nation’s need for energy while protecting natural resources.
