The Law Firm of Wisselman, Harounian & Associates, P.C. has started a new group for parents, family members and guardians who are concerned about children who are being bullied in school, on the Internet or anywhere. Family Law attorney Lauren Chartan will share her legal experience and knowledge with family members and discuss the legal recourse that is available. If your child or another family member has recently been victimized by bullying tactics, you are not helpless. Lauren Chartan is knowledgeable and compassionate and this will be a group for sharing and getting legal support.
Due to the recent focus on bullying of all forms, whether physical, emotional or initiated online, lawmakers have been increasing their crackdown on bullying tactics - part of which has been to create stronger laws to prevent future occurrences. Laws, however, do not always put a stop to all such actions. Bullies still thrive and, unfortunately, innocent children and young adults are the ones that have to pay the price. There are multiple reasons for bullying - from sexual orientation to gender to race - none of which should be tolerated. We understand the new laws and will work to expend and utilize them to your benefit. There are several avenues to pursue depending on the situation and the specifics, and Lauren can discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the alternative approaches.
Our first response to bullying group meeting was held in January and our second meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 25th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm and is complimentary and open to the concerned public. At the meeting, attendees will learn what can be done to help protect the rights of the bullied child. No one should ever be forced to be harassed, at any age, and they should definitely not be forced to endure it without the proper legal guidance. The meeting will be held at our office.
The leader of the group, Lauren Chartan completed an L.L.M (Masters in Laws, in
Family Law) at Hofstra University while she was a Deputy County Attorney in the Office of the Nassau County Attorney. The subject of Lauren’s thesis was “A Legal and Cultural Response to Bullying in School”. Ms. Chartan now concentrates on all aspects of family law at The Law Firm of Wisselman, Harounian & Associates, P.C.
